School Mental Health Best Practices Trainings

These offerings are a collaboration between the Minnesota Department of Education’s Project AWARE & COMPASS teams.

Target Audience: Administrators, Directors of Student Support Services, Lead Social Workers, school leaders interested in enhancing their system of supports for student mental health and wellbeing

Foundations of Comprehensive School Mental Health

In this training, participants will develop an understanding of the definition, core features, and value of comprehensive school mental health systems. By the end of this module, participants will be able to: 1) define comprehensive school mental health systems; 2) describe the six core features of comprehensive school mental health systems; & 3) describe three reasons why comprehensive school mental health is important. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance that they can submit for CEUs.

  • Monday, October 3, 9:00 – 10:30 AM
  • Wednesday, October 12, 3:00 – 4:30 PM
Commitment

Participants will be expected to complete a short amount of pre-work sent 2 weeks prior to the training date as well as the 1.5 hours of live, virtual training

Teaming

This session will focus on Teaming. By the end of this module, participants will be able to: 1) define a school mental health team and at least 3 functions of school mental health teams; 2) describe at least 3 reasons why school mental health teams are valuable; & 3) describe best practices for teaming. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance that they can submit for CEUs.

We highly encourage participants attend a Foundations of Comprehensive School Mental Health training in October as a pre-requisite.

Participants will be expected to complete a short amount of pre-work sent 2 weeks prior to the training date as well as the 1.5 hours of live, virtual training

Needs Assessment & Resource Mapping

This session will focus on Needs Assessment & Resource Mapping. By the end of this module, participants will be able to: 1) define needs assessment and resource mapping; 2) describe at least 3 reasons why needs assessments and resource mapping are valuable for schools; & 3) describe best practices for needs assessment and resource mapping. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance that they can submit for CEUs.
