ACTION ALERT FROM NASP SHARED WITH YOU FROM MSPA LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE
The Senate is unveiling their healthcare bill this morning and based on what I have seen so far, it is a bit worse than the House bill, at least in terms of what we care about. I was on a call this morning and we have been urged to do a final push before the vote coming soon. Across the board, the outcry against the Senate cutting Medicaid has paled in comparison to the outcry the House got when they passed the same thing. Our advocacy numbers show that our members have not done the same level of outreach to the Senate as they did with the House. We need to change this! This is our last chance. Even though this bill ultimately has to go to a conference committee before becoming law, if it passes the Senate with the Medicaid cuts, our chances of saving Medicaid as we know it are pretty much gone. I know I am preaching to the choir, but this would be terrible for kids, and schools, and potentially school psychs. Maybe not immediately, but in the near future.
As of right now, all signs point to a vote late this week, even if they don't have the votes because McConnell wants to force people to go on the record about healthcare, and holding a vote allows Congress to move to tax reform (which is where we may see the school choice stuff come into play).
We have an updated target list of Senators. If these states are in your region please reach out to them ASAP and share the information you already have, including action alerts and sample letters and urge them to activate their members ASAP. Even if they have already activated their membership, encourage them to send a reminder, or connect with other groups and share our action alert. You do not have to be a NASP member to use our Advocacy center, so share our information and links far and wide!!!
Again, we want to remind you that you do not need to be a NASP member to use our advoacy action center. Here is the link: http://cqrcengage.com/naspweb/home?0
Feel free to put it on your social media pages, webpages, or any other place that you think might help create some action on this vital issue!
Thank you so very much for your time and your advocacy for children! We are their voice!
